Because it was quite a ride going out there we decided for a mid journey break horse riding. That was super amazing!
Tasmania is not without its wildfires (although not as bad as Australia) and on the way to Strathgordon, driving through endless forests of the Southwest National Park , you could see some of the damage of the great fires of 2016.
We were going to stay two nights at the Pedder Wilderness Lodge, which used to be a purpose built town for the engineers and their families building the dam. You could rent some of the former houses. What a find. It was basic, but ideal.And they built it at the natural beauty spot on the shores of Lake Pedder.

Stop at a berry farm
Literally on the crossing before we took the road to nowhere, there was a super lovely berry farm where you could pick your own berries and eat some ice cream. While Mees and Dirk were picking berries, Lina and I enjoyed a delicious cone!
Road to Strathgordon
End then off we went. Into the Southwest National Park on the Gordon River Road. Beautiful landscapes. Not able to capture it on camera really. But so vast and beautiful!
