First we woke up before dawn to be able to be in time at Gatwick Airport at for our 9 AM flight. The drive to Gatwick takes us through the hart of London as we have to go from South to North. It is allways a pleasure to drive over the tower bridge and under the shadow of the Shard!
From Gatwick we took the flight to Glasgow where we landed around 11 AM. At the airport we rented a car to take us to Oban. The 2.5 hour route from Glasgow to Oban is one of the scenic drives of Scotland, and it definitely lived up to its expectation.
We stopped for fish and chips lunch in Tyndrum, well over 1,5 hour into our drive and arrived in Oban around 3 o'clock in the afternoon. By that time the girls were "out" from the journey.
Our ferry to the island would depart at 5AM (yes, 5AM...) the next morning, so we used the rest of the afternoon to get the tickets, discover the harbor and make sure we could go to bed at a decent hour to be able to be at the ferry in time the next day. Dirk and I were also pretty tired from the journey so everyone fell asleep in the family room at about the same time.
The ferry the next day would take 4.5 hours as the boat was first stopping at 2 other islands before it stopped at Coll (Mull and Tiree), but the ferry boat was such an adventure with beautiful views, than none of us minded.
And finally, there she is: The island of Coll! After 1,5 day since leaving London we finally reached our destination. As the island website advertised: remoteness, emptiness, roughed terrain, pristine and empty beaches. Heaven to the ears of Londoners :-).
